Al Sahwa Schools has a rich heritage and tradition that gives it an important place in the educational landscape of Oman.
Founded in 1993, we educate children from kindergarten to Grade 12 through a thoughtfully planned curriculum that honours and celebrates the rich cultural heritage of the Sultanate of Oman, underpinned by modern pedagogy and an international perspective.
Our Staff
Our dedicated and hard-working staff are recruited for their skills, experience and international diversity.
They actively embrace their role preparing students to become global citizens. It is by design, not chance, that we currently have 31 different nationalities represented on our staff.
Education for a Changing World
Education has been slow to adapt to a rapidly changing world. For well over 100 years, fundamentally little has altered in education but advances in technology in the last 30 years or so have seen a fundamental shift. This growth has been even more dynamic as a result of the pandemic.
While foundational information and knowledge still have an important role, students now have an increasing need to know how to judge the quality and validity of the information they are accessing, to use it in a considered and innovative manner, to think creatively and to be able to communicate and collaborate in a range of medium with people from a wide variety of cultures and backgrounds. These are the skills and attitudes that will separate those who will be equipped for the future from those that are not and are traits that we consciously nurture.
At Al Sahwa, we embrace this challenge as an opportunity and are now authorised to offer all three International Baccalaureate (IB) programs. This curriculum continuum offers our students a coherent path of knowledge and skill development throughout their time at our school. The quality of the education and overall experience this yields has been recognized with our accreditation from the Council for International Schools (CIS).
The Early Years
In our kindergarten and primary school, we follow the framework provided by the IB Primary Years Program (PYP).
This student-centred approach is based on a transdisciplinary curriculum framework that builds conceptual understanding.
Middle & Secondary School
The IB Middle Years Program (MYP) emphasises intellectual challenge. It encourages students aged 11 to 16 to make practical connections between their studies and the real world, preparing them for success in further study and in life.
In grades 11 and 12 we offer the General Education Diploma (GED) from the Ministry of Education in Oman in parallel with the IB Diploma (DP) program. These options provide all students with courses that are tailored to their interests and future plans and have consistently generated outstanding academic results and a range of pathways for our graduates.
I look forward to welcoming you to our exceptional school where our mission to be ‘a bilingual, IB World School proud of Oman’s rich cultural heritage, empowering students towards their potential’ guides us every day.
